A shelter staff member writes: Brownie Cake was picked up by the police when they found him walking around the streets of Brooklyn all alone! He is a wiggly and social guy who looks great in a fleece! Our vet thinks that Brownie Cake has what's called hypertrophic osteopathy, which has caused an overgrowth of bone on several parts of his face, and he should receive a full work-up at a vet. Brownie eats wet food like a champ, and his condition has not put a damper on his sunny personality! He is quite the charmer, and has become a vet favorite. Brownie Cake did very well on his SAFER, and will fit right in with any loving family willing to help him get the medical care he needs! Please help Brownie Cake find a place to call home, and pull him from BACC ASAP!
A volunteer writes: From his looks, to his medical needs, to his disposition Brownie Cake is a little chocolate pittie that is special in every way! His back legs seem a bit quirky, like he is always walking on his tippy-toes and when he sits down it seems to take a little longer than it should. While it may be in an unconventional way, Brownie Cake is absolutely adorable. In addition to whatever it is that plagues his body, it seems he has also suffered at the hand of humans. He arrived quite thin and with wounds around his neck that suggest he had a collar that was way too tight on for way too long. Despite all of this, he is absolutely the sweetest boy with the most amazing spirit!! He seemed a little unsure about his situation when I first met him, but very willing to befriend me - gladly accepting treats and softly wagging his tail. Brownie Cake seemed to acclimate overnight - the next day he was as enthusiastic about me as I was about him! His tail is always wagging and he has an endless supply of affection to give. He walks nicely on the leash, but does do some jumps for joy to celebrate being in the company of his person. He is always eager to give hugs and kisses, and get pet. If I have him off leash he always finds a way onto my lap - he is very cuddly! He loves treats and knows "sit." When I threw a tennis ball for him, Brownie Cake didn't seem to know what I was getting at, but he does initiate toy-less play with me by play bowing and spinning. He seems to have housetraining and has been very appropriate when we've encountered other dogs. He is always very attentive and it seems he wants nothing more than to please! Brownie Cake has stolen my heart - please check him out at Brooklyn ACC!
