A volunteer writes: Investigating the meaning of Zahir's name, I come across this from author Paul Coelho: "ZAHIR, in arabic, means visible, present, incapable of going unnoticed. It is someone or something which, once we have come into contact with them or it, gradually occupies our every thought, until we can think of nothing else."...and suddenly her name is perfectly fitting!! I saw Zahir trotting down the hallway when she first arrived at the Brooklyn ACC and was immediately enamored with this pint-sized beauty queen. With her compact stature, button ears, pouty bottom lip, and amber eyes, Zahir is the embodiment of cuteness. I found myself asking staff about her and couldn't wait to meet her myself - and she certainly didn't disappoint! As I entered her room I could hear Zahir's tail beating against the cage and her barking and pleading to go out. As soon as we got outside it became apparent why she was so desperate - Zahir seems very housetrained! She is an absolute doll - very loving and friendly with people. She relishes a good pet and is very playful and attentive. Zahir knows "sit" and seemed friendly when we encountered other dogs. Zahir's sweetness and charm make her irresistible - please come check her out at the Brooklyn ACC - she could be your latest obsession, but also your new best friend for life!!

I am a female brown and white pit bull mix. The shelter thinks I am about 1 YEAR Weight 49lbs
I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 01/09/2014 from NY 11423, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.
This dog is located at the Brooklyn Animal Care&Control (2336 Linden Blvd Brooklyn 11208). For more information on a particular dog, email adoption @ nycacc.org (remove the spaces) but ONLY email if you are serious about adopting, and ONLY if you are able to GO TO the shelter in-person. Please do not email for status updates... the only thing you will accomplish is spamming their in boxes and causing REAL adopter emails to go un-noticed. Contact the NYC ACC at (212) 788-4000 for further automated instructions. Also, have the ID# listed at the top of this post handy when inquiring!! This dog is in danger of being on the euthanasia list and could be scheduled to be killed at any time! If you absolutely cannot get to the shelter, please contact participating rescue groups listed toward the bottom of the link to see if they can assist you:
