A volunteer writes: Sometimes quirks are something you need to learn to love, and other times, as is the case with Springsteen, they are the very things that make you fall in love! He is always quiet in his cage and sometimes entertaining himself with his blanket (not destroying it, but tossing it around). He has piercing, bright eyes and looks right at me, but occasionally outside it seems like he might have some visual impairment. In general he has no problem navigating, but has walked into the fence a few times when I've had him in the yard. When I pet him he sometimes cowers initially, but then seems to enjoy it and leans in. Springsteen can be a little shy at first, but toys almost serve as icebreakers and means of empowerment -- he LOVES toys. His tail wags at the prospect of receiving one and if you let him, he'll proudly carry one in his mouth throughout his walk. He likes to chase after them, too, but sometimes seems to have trouble tracking them. While I can't help but feel bad for him searching for a ball that is a few inches from his face, the celebratory play bow he does when he's reunited with it is enough to forget that sentiment. He pulls on the leash, but not in a disconnected way, in an excited, exploratory way. He seems housebroken, and though we haven't encountered a real dog, we did stumble upon a statue of a dog and Springsteen's reaction to it was nothing short of endearing. He had a high tail wag at first, but then softened and lowered it as he investigated, sniffed from tail to head, and then licked the metal spaniel on the mouth! Could you be this sweet boy's match? Springsteen would love to meet you at Brooklyn ACC!
Another volunteer writes:
When I first met Springsteen, I thought he was blind. He does seem to see shadows and objects but his vision is definitely impaired. He loses "sight" of things easily. He loves to play with toys and chew up balls. He is sweet and very cute. He does seem dog friendly, just needs to go slow due to his eye issue. He needs someone with experience with a vision impaired dog and some follow up with the vet!
